Fossils and Ladders to Enlightenment.
Excerpt from :Shamanism and Tantra in the Himalayas
The Shamans believe that fossils and especially ammonites, were created through Shiva’s Kundalini meditation. When he sat on the rock stratum of the mountains the energy of the meditating yogi god burned spirals into the stones.
Fossils connect Shamans with the endless eons of time: they are echoes of extinguished lives and by virtue of this they are sacred. For the tantrikas, sadhus and Kali worshipers the spiral shaped ammonites are also ladders, the paths of consciousness that slowly but surely winds its way into the heights, just as the kundalini slithers up the spinal column.
For this reason the stones serve as aids to meditation. Through them Shakti can be increased.
In general feathers and bird skins are of great significance to Shaman’s: the feathers symbolize travelling, contact with nature, and respect for animals.
